Each year Gartner predicts new findings for digital innovation.  At this year’s Symposium/ITExpo on the 17th of October 2016 in Florida, managing vice president, chief of research and Gartner Fellow Daryl Plummer announced Gartner’s top ten strategic predictions for the next three-to-five years.

Findings by Daryl included:

By 2020, 100 million consumers will shop through virtual reality. Gartner predicts that by the end of 2017, one in five major retailers will begin deploying augmented reality on their websites.

IKEA has already launched an augmented reality catalogue in 2013 to enable shoppers to visualise how certain pieces of furniture could look inside their home.

Not only that, but the app measures the size of the products against the surrounding room and fixtures to offer a true-to-life size where possible.

By 2020, 30% of web browsing sessions will be done without a screen. As bots become better, smart agents will start taking over all types of mobile interactions.

Technology will become so advanced that for example, a maintenance person can ask a jet engine whether it needs any parts replaced.

By 2020, 40% of employees can cut healthcare costs by wearing a fitness tracker. Also predicted, that by 2018, 2 million employees will have to wear fitness trackers as a condition of employment.

Below we’ve created an infographic to make it easier to see all of their predictions in an easy to digest visual format.
